Drink-Up

"In the bark of morning and the bark of evening, you will gain passage to hidden things." -Awakening Osiris

Here I am. Drowned and smothered in smoke and music. Maybe one more horrible headache could save me from my future proche. But one more song could bury me.

I'm bent over backwards. All the way back. My neck's against the wall. "Work me, Lord." No one can see my eyes. I've hidden them well. I've hidden everything about me. Well I didn't hide it... but it's hidden.

Neptune is in June and Armageddon's in my bed. In my head is a Cold War.

Yaourt. Why did I write "Yaourt"?

I didn't.

This is between the glasses. I have a lot of time for soliloquy. Tall and sudden she was. With an arch at the top of her head. I remember that and the eyes and the shape of the head and nothing else. But I'd remember those things unconscious underwater

And she was leaning over me. Holding a cigarette in her right hand. Oddly enough on her right wrist was a watch. Guess. "Why are you wearing a watch on your right arm?" I asked.

She said it was because of a bracelet on her left wrist that was less bothersome than on her right. I was staring at the space on the red couch between our legs as she said this. I'm strange like that.

My head was throbbing but my legs weren't yet weak. I could've walked all the way from the place Republique to Charonne where my bike was. But Bruce Springsteen said "There's magic in the night." and I've been looking for it ever since.

It's somewhere between the bottles I'm sure. Least that's what they tell me on T.V...
